Candlelight Vigil to Remember Aileen McKay-Dalton
City Council Member Letitia James will be holding a press conference and candlelight vigil to remember Aileen McKay-Dalton, wife and mother of three, who sustained fatal injuries last Thursday, July 8, 2010, when struck by a car while driving her motor scooter.
Community to gather at site and time of accident – Corner of DeKalb Avenue and Clinton Avenue in FortGreene, Brooklyn this Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 5:30 PM
It is believed that the driver is a member of a federal law enforcement agency. It is unclear whether he was traveling at the time in an official capacity. Council Member James has previously called for an investigation into the circumstances of this tragedy, and complete transparency by all relevant agencies with her office and the community at large.
Since this incident, there have been conflicting reports concerning whether the driver of the SUV was either speeding or ran a red light. Additionally, some media outlets have reported that there were no witnesses to the incident. To the contrary, numerous constituents have reached out to both the offices of Council Member James and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio calling for a thorough investigation. There are also two witnesses noted in the police accident report completed at the scene of the incident.
“It is a sign of how well-loved Ms. McKay-Dalton was that this tragedy has affected an entire community,” said Council Member Letitia James. “An investigation is imperative in determining whether this incident was indicative of a larger issue of speeding along Clinton Avenue. If that is the case, we must take action immediately to prevent this from happening again.”
