Here is your opportunity to do something special for one of our community’s most treasured landmark! The Fort Greene Park Conservancy is looking for volunteers to help with its membership & awareness promotions, and free summer events in the park. They are looking for help in the following areas:
- Promoting awareness and membership at the Brooklyn Flea and the Fort Greene Park Greenmarket. Volunteers are need for 1 ½ hours slots
- Coordinators to schedule and work events
- Program and event managers to organize and promote events
- Designers for Web site and printed materials
- Writers for newsletters, interviews, and to facilitate social media (facebook, twitter)
- Performing administrative tasks
Some of the exciting summer events that you will be able to volunteer for include:
- Music in the Grove: Eight children’s concerts Wednesday mornings at 10am, mid-June through mid-August.
- Greene Music on the Main Stage: Headline artists on the Myrtle Lawn that attract individuals of varied ages and interests. First Tuesday evening of the month, From June through September from 6.30pm to 9.30pm
- A Series of free lectures related to art installations. The artist, or other, will write the program and The Conservancy programming volunteers will oversee the product.
- Fort Greene LitFest: The Fort Greene Park Literary Festival will celebrate the end of a free 6-week summer-long series of creative writing workshops held in the park for thirty 7-12 year olds and teenagers.
- The Walt Whitman Poet’s Corner will present four Whitman Poetic Tours through the Park.
- Bat Tours: These intriguing and sometimes spooky tours will be at dusk on the third Monday of the month, May through August.
- Learn about roses and other flora in the Park from Alexandra Leighton. The garden historian and landscape designer will sponsor two talks.
