Der Schwarze Kolner'The Dark Cologner' is the literal translation for this beer bar in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Started by a German and an Englishman, the idea behind this bar is to provide some excellant beers, inexpensive bar food and a casual atmosphere for anybody that happens to find themselves there. There are over 15 beers on tap comprising of Weinstepheaners (wheat beer), Gaffell, Radeberger, Kolsch, dark beers, ales, pilsners etc. I went through a few before picking Kolsch which is a straw colored beer from Cologne, a cheese plate and a bratworst.

The presentation includes the beers being served in a glass particular to that style of beer, ranging from $ 4 for the smallest glass and going up to $ 18 for the largest mug or a gigantic mass. The beer garden welcomes all and is a situated in a wonderfully social corner of Fulton street. Great for people watching, meeting best buddies or unwinding before going home. The food comprises of typical Rhineland food, with chicken sausages, currywursts, pretzels and cheeses. The downside is the service -especially when it gets busy.
